The North Wessex Downs VIP project

The North Wessex Downs VIP project

Since this image was taken over a year ago now, the visual impairment provision project just to the north of Devizes, Wiltshire is now ready to go. All of the development stages have been underway for about 3 to 4 years and now the archaeologists are starting ready for Balfour Beatty, the contractor for this job.

It involves about 4.5kms of underground 400,000 volt cable and then the removal of 11 of the L2 design of Lattice towers. Much excavation work will be the main impact of this task and the farmers involved know it will be a struggle for a few years to have the yields back to pre-disturbance levels once all backfilled and towers gone, perhaps some time in 2025. Towers and Lines will be reporting on progress of this project and the full story will be presented in a future edition.
