Dunford Bridge VIP Project

Dunford Bridge VIP Project

It is the middle of June 2022, very bright and dry weather at Dunford Bridge in this beautiful location allows a leisurely stroll along the newly constructed temporary trail. But this area is being transformed and will be changed for everyone’s benefit and enjoyment in this much-loved environment.

On the 15th of September 2015, National Grid Electricity Transmission announced that the Trans Pennine Trail had been chosen from several applications to the Ofgem Visual Impairment Provision, program.

This is the initiative for mitigating some of the places in the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Park, that have the NGET Overhead Transmission Lines routed across them. The aim being to underground sections of these lines which are considered the most visually impacted, from the walking, cycling and horse-riding publics point of view in the AONB’s and National Parks in the UK. The selection process was started after the first establishment of the National Stakeholder Group for the VIP projects and funding was made available for the first tranche of schemes. Four of those chosen to have gone ahead into the next phase and two of these are under construction. A third scheme is in the early stages of a 7-year development.
